Description
Our machine shops at James Walker Moorflex, in the UK, specialise in the high-precision machining of geometrically complex components in exotic alloys and standard grade materials. We originally developed this service to meet the demands of the oil & gas industry - and its OEMs - for the top quality components needed on subsea and topside equipment. 

Work is undertaken by the same dedicated and highly-skilled team of professionals that manufactures Moorside® ring joint gaskets under API Spec 6A-0038, with PSL4 accreditation. We therefore know exceptionally well the exacting requirements of the industry, and fully appreciate the importance of producing components that will operate efficiently for the full life cycle of an oilfield.

Products
Most of our special machining work is customer-specific and covered by confidentiality agreements. However, our components are in use around the world on wellheads, manifolds, BOPs, production safety valves, risers, chokes and pipelines.

Examples include complex section AX, FX, IX and KX ring gaskets, valve components, metal-to-metal sealing rings, metal lip seals, thin-walled casing hangers, casing hanger seals, tubing hanger pack-offs, and lockdown rings.

Special expertise: thin-wall machining
We have perfected special manufacturing techniques for the precision machining of annular thin-walled components.

Our expertise prevents thin-walled components being crushed on the machiine, whilst allowing precise profiles to be achieved repeatedly to tight tolerances and with absolute concentricity. Most of these components are manufactured from high-nickel alloys that are notoriously difficult to machine and control.

We are able to machine thin-walled components from 25mm (0.98in) OD to 2300mm (90.6in) OD, and to a depth of 250mm (9.8in).

Materials
We are highly experienced at machining many of the most difficult-to-work exotic alloys, as well as the more standard grades. Our inventory of materials regularly includes Inconel® 600, 625, 716, 718, 800, 825 and X-750, as well as Hastelloy® B2 and C275.

Special high-performance alloys are sourced from approved suppliers, mainly in North America and Western Europe. All materials are fully certified, and tested for physical and chemical qualities as soon as we receive them.

Machining capabilities
Our range of fully automated machining centres include state-of-the-art 5-axis and 3-axis machines, plus a number of 3-axis models with multiple tool stations. In addition, a vast array of CNC lathes gives us the flexibility to manufacture a wide range of components up to 2300mm (90.6in) OD. We also have vertical and horizontal milling and CNC routing machines.

Total traceability of every finished part is guaranteed back to the original billet, and our Inspection Department employs state-of-the-art equipment and tecniques to ensure dimensional accuracy is achieved constantly to the required specifications.   

All our machines are operated by the most highly skilled, time-served personnnel, working in a tightly controlled QA environment.
